Broken Torsion Spring Replacement in the Las Vegas Valley
The problem
The customer couldn't open their garage door. The torsion spring above the door had broken — the classic failure that announces itself with a loud bang and leaves the door too heavy for the opener (or a person) to lift safely.
Diagnosis
A broken torsion spring means the door's counterbalance is gone. The opener isn't built to hoist the door's full dead weight — forcing it typically strips the opener's drive gear, and lifting by hand risks the door slamming back down. The correct response is exactly what this customer did: stop using the door and call.
The work
We replaced the damaged spring with one matched to the door's weight, re-seated the lift cables, and wound the new spring to specification. The door was then balanced — a correctly sprung door holds steady at mid-height — and the opener's force limits were reset for the rebalanced door.
Safety checks
Before completing the job we cycle-tested the door, verified balance at mid-travel, and confirmed both opener safety functions: reversal on contact and reversal when the photo-eye beam is broken.
The outcome
The door was back in normal, safe operation the same visit, lifting smoothly under the opener with the balance and safety systems verified.
